Frequently Asked Questions

Note: For information pertaining to under-18 members, see the "Cadet FAQ."
What do I need to do to join the squad?
What training
do I need?
Just fill out an application! Aside from the requirements
listed on
the "Join" page, nothing else is required. No prior EMS experience
or
training is necessary.
How much time will I spend on duty?
Will I have to
stay at the building?
Approximately 60 hours per month consisting of one 12-hour
shift per week (a night or a weekend day) plus one 6-hour
shift every other
weekend. Members on duty do not have
to stay at the squad building; you can
remain at home or run
errands in town while on squad duty.
Can I stay at the building if I want to?
Sure! the Squad building is fully equipped with a kitchen,
bedrooms, and other facilities. You are more than welcome
to come down during
your shift.
I really hate seeing blood. Should I join?
You can still join- most calls aren't accidents, and there is
little or no
blood involved. If you feel nervous on a call, there's always at
least
one other EMT present to help you (if not two or three).
